Biomaterials for Innovation in Pharmaceutical Delivery and Processing

Few materials on the market perform as effectively as Invibio® PEEK biomaterials in pharmaceutical applications such as drug delivery devices and pharmaceutical processing components.

Our biocompatible polymers permit the design and manufacture of new and innovative pharmaceutical devices and processing applications.

  • Exceptional chemical resistance to a wide range of organic and inorganic chemicals
  • Extremely low levels of extractables & leachables
  • Endures repeated sterilization and extreme temperatures
  • Extensive processing flexibility including extrusion, injection molding, compression molding and machining
  • Meets ISO 10993 and USP Class VI standards

Ideal Alternatives for Analytical Sensors and Port Access Systems

Implantable Port Access System

The European market leader for infusion therapy and clinical nutrition uses PEEK-OPTIMA® polymer for a completely implantable port catheter system which is used for the vascular or spinal introduction of medicines as well as for parenteral nutrition. PEEK-OPTIMA polymer was selected for the housing and the supporter ring due to its unique combination of biocompatibility, mechanical properties and processing capabilities. PEEK-OPTIMA is highly resistant to a wide range of chemicals, which is critical in chemotherapy applications. Additionally, it is resistant to stress cracking — a process that can occur on extended exposure to liquids as can be expected through repeated access of the port. Processed by injection moulding, the PEEK-OPTIMA-based ports are more easily manufactured compared to those using materials such as titanium or ceramics. Furthermore, the design freedom allow for patient-friendly shaping and optimum patient comfort.

Conductivity Sensor

In order to meet the stringent material requirements of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, one of the leading specialists for analytics and sensor technology uses PEEK-CLASSIX® polymer for its specialized conductivity sensors. The biomaterial is able to withstand the high demands of the application including high pressure loads, continuous extreme temperatures and direct contact with aggressive chemicals, including solvents, acids and bases. The high temperature performance of PEEK-CLASSIX enables sterilization under harsh conditions, as required for appropriate hygiene, without impairing the sensor. Importantly, PEEK-CLASSIX also fulfils the requirements of US Pharmacopeia Class VI and ISO 10993 certification.
